Position Overview
Lead MEP Project Manager responsible for planning, executing and delivering mission-critical data center construction projects. This role focuses on mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems for hyperscale and enterprise data centers, with ownership of project schedules, budgets, quality, safety and commissioning to ensure design intent, redundancy targets and client requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end delivery of MEP scope for data center construction projects, including coordination of mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors, vendors and commissioning teams.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and resource plans; track progress, identify risks and implement corrective actions to meet milestones and financial targets.
- Oversee commissioning activities (Cx), FAT/SAT, testing and balancing, and handover processes to ensure systems meet performance criteria and mission-critical reliability standards.
- Review and validate MEP design documents, shop drawings and submittals; ensure constructability, code compliance (NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE), and alignment with client and hyperscale requirements.
- Implement and enforce quality control, safety and site protocols; lead jobsite meetings, safety briefings and inspections to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
- Coordinate cross-discipline integration with structural, architectural, IT/infrastructure and controls teams; manage BIM/Revit models and as-built documentation updates.
- Manage procurement and vendor relationships for long-lead MEP equipment (UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, PDUs, UPS batteries), including review of vendor proposals and delivery schedules.
- Administer change management processes and contract change orders; negotiate with subcontractors and clients to resolve scope, schedule and cost impacts.
- Provide leadership and direction to onsite construction teams; mentor field engineers and subcontractors to drive performance and continuous improvement.
- Serve as primary client and commissioning authority contact during construction and acceptance phases; prepare and deliver status reports, commissioning plans and final turnover documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Construction Management or related engineering discipline; or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of progressive MEP construction and project management experience, with at least 5 years focused on mission-critical data center projects and hyperscale deployments.
- Demonstrated commissioning experience (Cx/CxA) with hands-on involvement in FAT, SAT, testing and balancing and system performance verification.
- Strong technical knowledge of data center MEP systems: UPS, switchgear, generators, power distribution, precision cooling (chillers, CRAH/CRAC), chilled water systems, fire suppression, BMS/controls and redundancy topologies (N+1, 2N).
- Experience with construction management tools (Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project), BIM/Revit and AutoCAD. Proficiency in schedule and cost control best practices.
- Certifications such as PMP, PE, CxA or equivalent are highly desirable. OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training .
- Proven track record managing hyperscale or large enterprise clients, vendors and long-lead equipment procurement timelines.
- Exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight schedules and on-call requirements.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours as needed to support commissioning and critical milestones.
