Purpose of the Job
• To deliver planned and reactive maintenance within a critical environment, ensuring electrical and associated building services operate safely and reliably.
• To support the safe operation of critical systems within a single-site operation in Wednesbury.
• To work as part of a small, highly skilled onsite engineering team maintaining uptime and compliance.
• To respond effectively to reactive issues and participate in the site call-out rota.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical systems with supporting mechanical exposure.
• Perform fault finding, maintenance, and repairs on HV/LV systems (where authorised).
• Support the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure including power, life safety, and building services.
• Ensure all works are completed in line with statutory requirements, site procedures, and SLA expectations.
• Accurately complete maintenance documentation, permits, and reports.
• Work collaboratively with the Supervisor and fellow Engineer to ensure site resilience and continuity.
• Escort and oversee specialist subcontractors when required.
• Respond to call-outs as part of the onsite rota, covering the Birmingham site only.
Personal Experience / Qualifications / Skills
• Strong electrical background with a multi-skilled capability.
• Experience working within critical environments such as Data Centres, Banking, Hospitals, or Pharmaceutical sites (highly desirable).
• HV/LV experience strongly desirable.
• Ability to fault-find under pressure in live environments.
• Strong understanding of health & safety, permit-to-work systems, and critical site procedures.
• Good communication skills and a professional, team-oriented approach.
Working Hours & Call-Out Details
• Working hours: 07:30 – 16:30
• Salary: £40,000 per annum
• Call-out rota: 1 in 3, moving to 1 in 6
• Standby payment: £100 per standby period
• Call-out pay: Minimum 4 hours paid at 1.5x, double time on Sundays and Bank Holidays
• Call-out coverage: Birmingham site only
• Pool van provided when on call (no assigned van for the role)
Team Structure
• Onsite team consists of:
– 1 x Supervisor
– 2 x Engineers (this role is one of the two engineers)
Accountabilities
• Accountable to the Site Supervisor.
• No direct line management responsibility.
• Responsible for maintaining site uptime, safety, and compliance.
