Project Accountant

Summary Objective
The Project Accountant plays a critical role in supporting financial management and control for our organization's projects. This role involves collaborating with project teams, monitoring project financials, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards and company policies. The Project Accountant will contribute to accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting to support the successful execution of projects.
Essential Functions
- Maintain accurate records and reports, including contracts and change orders, for all job cost and project accounting activities.
- Monitor accounts receivable related to projects and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Prepare and present regular financial reports for project stakeholders, including management.
- Monitor compliance with company issued policies and procedures and take corrective action for non-compliance.
- Assist in external audits, ensuring all necessary documentation is provided and audit findings are addressed promptly.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making related to project profitability and resource allocation.
- Create project accounts in the accounting system and book the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts (job cost transfers).
- Investigate project variances, submit variance reports to management and respond to requests for more detail from key stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with project teams, finance department colleagues, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide financial guidance and support to project managers and teams as needed.
- Close out projects and project accounts upon project completion.
- Review daily operational and financial transactions (Purchasing, Invoice Logs, JSI) and investigate any unusual transaction.
- Research and explain actual against budget/forecast variances for job cost accounts.
- Perform various month-end closing procedures, including the preparation of month end Project Cost Reports and the Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedule.
- Reconcile WIP schedule to general ledger accounts (both Balance Sheet and Income Statement).
- Document financial transactions by preparing general ledger account entries and by maintaining records and files, reconciling accounts, and analyzing account information.
- Protect the confidentiality of all accounting and payroll data.
- Prepares for ISO 9001 and other audits.

Work Location
This position will work out of our Main Office in Jacksonville, FL. This position is not approved for telecommuting or working remotely.
Work Environment
Most work is performed in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience.
- Bachelor degree in accounting and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience; or
- 10 years’ relevant experience.
