Project Engineer – Electrical Commissioning

Overview

We are working with a growing engineering and commissioning team seeking a Project Engineer – Electrical Commissioning to support mission-critical projects, primarily within data center environments.

This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer with experience in electrical systems commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting. You’ll play a key role in executing field activities, supporting project delivery, and working closely with clients and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission electrical distribution systems and controls, including medium and low voltage systems
  • Support commissioning efforts from design through occupancy phases
  • Review system designs to ensure alignment with project and client requirements
  • Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and system validation
  • Attend and document factory acceptance testing (FAT)
  • Maintain detailed documentation of field activities, test results, and observations
  • Collaborate with project teams to coordinate and execute commissioning activities
  • Provide technical recommendations based on system performance
  • Assist in preparing commissioning plans, reports, and schedules
  • Support and mentor junior engineers as needed

Systems & Equipment Exposure

Experience working with some or all of the following is :

  • Generators & paralleling switchgear
  • Transformers (medium / low voltage)
  • UPS systems & battery systems
  • Switchgear, switchboards, and power distribution systems
  • ATS / STS systems
  • PLC controls and electrical monitoring systems (EPMS)
  • Busways, PDUs, RPPs, and grounding systems
  • Lighting control and building systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR equivalent hands-on experience
  • 2–4+ years of experience in electrical commissioning or related field
  • Experience in mission-critical environments (data centers strongly )
  • Strong understanding of electrical system design, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Experience

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guidelines
  • Knowledge of NETA testing standards
  • Experience with BMS and/or EPMS systems
  • PE license or commissioning certification (a plus, not required)

Work Environment

  • Travel required: ~50–75% (nationwide, depending on project assignment)
  • Field-based role with hands-on commissioning responsibilities
