Project Engineer – Electrical Commissioning

Overview
We are working with a growing engineering and commissioning team seeking a Project Engineer – Electrical Commissioning to support mission-critical projects, primarily within data center environments.
This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer with experience in electrical systems commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting. You’ll play a key role in executing field activities, supporting project delivery, and working closely with clients and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission electrical distribution systems and controls, including medium and low voltage systems
- Support commissioning efforts from design through occupancy phases
- Review system designs to ensure alignment with project and client requirements
- Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and system validation
- Attend and document factory acceptance testing (FAT)
- Maintain detailed documentation of field activities, test results, and observations
- Collaborate with project teams to coordinate and execute commissioning activities
- Provide technical recommendations based on system performance
- Assist in preparing commissioning plans, reports, and schedules
- Support and mentor junior engineers as needed
Systems & Equipment Exposure
Experience working with some or all of the following is :
- Generators & paralleling switchgear
- Transformers (medium / low voltage)
- UPS systems & battery systems
- Switchgear, switchboards, and power distribution systems
- ATS / STS systems
- PLC controls and electrical monitoring systems (EPMS)
- Busways, PDUs, RPPs, and grounding systems
- Lighting control and building systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR equivalent hands-on experience
- 2–4+ years of experience in electrical commissioning or related field
- Experience in mission-critical environments (data centers strongly )
- Strong understanding of electrical system design, testing, and troubleshooting
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Experience
- Familiarity with ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guidelines
- Knowledge of NETA testing standards
- Experience with BMS and/or EPMS systems
- PE license or commissioning certification (a plus, not required)
Work Environment
- Travel required: ~50–75% (nationwide, depending on project assignment)
- Field-based role with hands-on commissioning responsibilities
