We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Project Manager I to join our team at K&A Engineering in Charlotte, NC. The Project Manager I (PM-I) serves as a single point of accountability for the planning and execution of utility infrastructure projects, operating under the general direction of a Senior Project Manager. This role is responsible for managing, or assisting with the management of, all phases of project delivery to ensure success across scope, schedule, budget, quality, environmental compliance, safety, communication, security, and integration.
The PM-I manages a portfolio of low- to moderate-risk projects that may impact multiple business units, senior leadership, or external agencies. Assignments may vary based on experience, risk profile, and technical background.
This position specifically focuses on transmission (230 kV and 100 kV) substation and line design/build projects supporting data center interconnections. Candidates with infrastructure project management experience or utility industry background—particularly within electric transmission—are strongly .

(Role may report to either location depending on candidate preference and business need.)
Role Expectations:
- Lead or assist in the planning, engineering, construction, and closeout phases of assigned utility projects.
- Drive project performance to meet established safety, cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
- Coordinate cross-functional project teams and serve as the unifying point of leadership and decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.
- Manage project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Provide clear communication with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and external partners.
- Conduct site visits as needed to monitor field progress and validate construction or design activities.
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
- Associate degree (two-year college or university).
- Working knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Decision making
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Team collaboration
- Risk management
- Ability to manage multiple small to mid-scale projects simultaneously.
Pay Range $40-45/hour
