We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PM-I to join our team at K&A Engineering in Charlotte, NC or Maiden, NC. The Project Manager I (PM-I) serves as a single point of accountability for the planning and execution of assigned projects under the general direction of a Senior Project Manager. This role manages or assists in managing all phases of project planning, development, and execution to ensure successful delivery in areas such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, environmental compliance, risk, communication, and integration.
The PM-I is responsible for a portfolio of low to moderate risk projects, which influence various internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership and regulatory agencies. The position acts as a unifying leader — coordinating cross-functional activities, facilitating decision-making, and ensuring alignment with company policies, procedures, and project management standards.
This role specifically supports the execution of transmission (230kV and 100kV) substation and line design/build projects to connect data center customers. Experience in infrastructure project management and/or electric transmission is .
Progression into and within this role is based on demonstrated experience, knowledge, and capability, aligned with business unit needs and project portfolio requirements.
Role Expectations:
- Manage or support the management of all project phases from initiation through closeout.
- Ensure adherence to project success factors, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, and safety.
- Lead cross-functional project teams and facilitate collaboration among engineering, construction, permitting, environmental, and operations stakeholders.
- Provide consistent and proactive project communications to leadership and external partners as needed.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and project management standards.
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and support resolution of complex issues.
- Maintain documentation, reporting, and scheduling in alignment with project management best practices.
- Support transmission design/build efforts for customer interconnections, including field visits, constructability reviews, and coordination with technical teams.
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
- Graduation from a two-year college or university.
- Strong working knowledge of project management principles.
- Demonstrated competency in:

- Collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience working on project-related tasks such as scheduling, cost tracking, communication, and reporting.

- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
- Utility industry experience.
- PMI Certification (PMP or CAPM).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Utility technical training or certifications.
- Knowledge or proficiency in construction management.
- Advanced skill in project scheduling and cost control tools.
Pay Range $41-46/hour
