Job Title: Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic (Data Center Construction)
Project Type: New Construction – Ground-Up Data Center
Position Summary
The Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal systems on a ground-up data center construction project. This includes HVAC ductwork, air distribution systems, and related components supporting mission-critical infrastructure. The ideal candidate has experience in large-scale commercial or industrial construction, can interpret drawings, and works safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet-metal duct systems, including supply, return, exhaust, and outside-air systems.
- Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to determine layout, dimensions, and installation methods.
- Measure, cut, bend, and fasten sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Install dampers, access doors, diffusers, louvers, and other air distribution components.
- Install hangers, supports, and seismic bracing in accordance with project requirements.
- Seal ductwork per specifications to meet air leakage standards (e.g., SMACNA requirements).
- Perform field modifications and troubleshoot installation issues.
Qualifications
- Experience with large commercial or industrial projects; data center or mission-critical experience .
- Strong knowledge of duct systems, fittings, and air distribution components.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., SMACNA) and applicable building codes.
- Proficient with sheet metal tools, layout, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working on lifts/scaffolding.
