Signal Processing Senior Research Engineer

Location: Munich, Germany

My client has a strong research and development team in Munich which works at the forefront of optical communications, digital signal processing and advanced communication systems. They develop technologies that enable the next of high-speed, high-capacity networks, including optical AI data centre networks, broadband access, metro and backbone systems.

\n

I am looking for an experienced and innovative Senior Research Engineer with specific Signal Processing experience to join the team and help shape the future of optical communication technology.

Your Role

\n

    \n
  • Conduct innovative research in optical communications and digital signal processing to advance next- modem technologies for high-speed, high-capacity networks.
  • \n

  • Develop, implement and evaluate advanced algorithms to improve the performance of optical communication systems and signal processing techniques.
  • \n

  • Work across both coherent and direct-detect optical technologies, addressing challenging problems in system performance, signal quality and efficiency.
  • \n

  • Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to accelerate algorithm development and optimise performance, complexity and power consumption.
  • \n

  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across disciplines to turn research concepts into practical, high-performance solutions.
  • \n

  • Contribute to technical publications, patents and presentations at leading international conferences and within the wider research community.
  • \n

Experience

\n

    \n
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering or a related discipline, with a strong focus on signal processing.
  • \n

  • At least 3 years of relevant industry or research experience following completion of your PhD, ideally within optical communications or optical networking.
  • \n

  • Strong expertise in optical communication systems, digital signal processing, information theory, coding and/or machine learning.
  • \n

  • Excellent programming skills in Python and C.
  • \n

  • Experience using and developing solutions with large models (LLMs) or AI-assisted coding tools.
  • \n

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate research concepts into practical implementations.
  • \n

  • Professional working proficiency in English.
  • \n

  • A proactive, collaborative approach and a genuine interest in developing cutting-edge communication technologies.
  • \n
