Our client, an upstream energy company focused on exploring, developing, and producing natural gas in the Appalachian region of the United States, is expanding their team and hiring a Senior Manager of Strategy and Market Analytics. The company owns and operates 1.2 million net acres in Pennsylvania, with current net production of 1.2 Bcf/d, primarily from the prolific Marcellus and Utica Shale formations.

Position Overview:
The Senior Manager, Strategy and Market Analytics will lead the company's natural gas market strategy through rigorous market analysis, price forecasting, and integrated commercial planning. This role is responsible for building and communicating a fundamental natural gas and basis price outlook for Appalachia, existing/select new end markets, and Henry Hub, supported by analysis of supply, demand, inventory, infrastructure, and other key market dynamics.
As a trusted advisor to senior leadership, this individual will produce research, scenario analyses, and decision-ready insights that support physical sales, financial hedging, and broader strategic planning. Working closely with operations, midstream, and strategic planning teams, this Senior Manager will ensure market intelligence is aligned with corporate objectives and risk-adjusted margin optimization throughout the commodity cycle. The role also requires regular presentation of market views, assumptions, and price forecasts to the Officer Group and Board of Directors, supported by strong executive presence, sound judgment, and clear communication.
In addition to serving as a strategic advisor, this Manager will lead and develop the team responsible for market analytics and forecasting, while establishing scalable processes, fit-for-purpose tools, and strong analytical standards. The near-term priority for the role is to strengthen forecasting and market intelligence capabilities and build a durable foundation for data-driven decision support. Over time, the role is expected to broaden its contribution to commercial strategy, business development, M&A evaluations, and data center project analysis and execution.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, refinement, and ongoing management of natural gas price forecasting models, including Henry Hub and regional basis price outlooks.
- Direct and own the analysis of market fundamentals (supply, demand, inventory, infrastructure) and market forces across local and NYMEX benchmarks.
- Produce regular reports, research updates, and scenario analyses to inform executive leadership decisions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by translating complex quantitative analysis into concise, decision-oriented insights.
- Develop and deliver high-quality presentations to executive stakeholders, including the Officer Group and Board of Directors.
- Assist with the development of integrated strategies across physical sales and financial hedging to optimize risk-adjusted margins throughout the commodity cycle.
- Collaborate with operations, midstream, and strategic planning teams to ensure alignment of market analysis with corporate goals.
- Identify and implement process improvements and technology solutions to enhance market analysis and reporting capabilities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team focused on building organizational capability in market intelligence, modeling, and data-driven decision support.
Future Role Growth Opportunities:
- Gradually expand involvement in business development activities including development of external relationships, market intelligence, and new business opportunities.
- Support M&A evaluations, data center project analysis and execution, and ad hoc special projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree .
- 10+ years of experience in natural gas market analysis, marketing, or business development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Deep expertise in North American natural gas fundamentals, including supply/demand modeling, inventory analysis, and NYMEX/basis forecasting.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and communication skills, with experience presenting complex market views to senior management.
- Proficiency in relevant market analysis tools and advanced Excel skills.
