Job Summary
The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate tax filings and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. This role oversees sales and use tax, franchise tax, CAT tax, property tax, licenses, and operational tax matters for three warehouse locations, including U.S. territories. The specialist works closely with external CPA firms, government agencies, and internal teams to maintain proper records and ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Sales and Use Tax compliance, including registration, filing, payment, and audit support across applicable states.
- Manage Franchise Tax filings, utilizing records and workpapers provided by Gerson CPA Firm.
- Ensure compliance with Secretary of State requirements, including entity registrations, annual reports, and filings.
- Prepare and oversee Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) filings for states where required.
- Manage Property Tax compliance, including assessments, filings, payments, and appeals when necessary.
- Oversee tax compliance for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, ensuring adherence to local tax laws and reporting requirements.
- Maintain and monitor all licenses and permits required for business operations.
- Support tax and operational compliance for three warehouse locations, including jurisdictional filings and renewals.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms, tax advisors, and government agencies as needed.
- Maintain accurate tax records, schedules, and documentation for audits and internal review.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess impact on company operations.
- Assist with special tax projects and process improvements as needed.
- Employees reimbursable expenses- Expensify on compliance with IRS laws and regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree inAccounting with a concentration in Taxation (or equivalent degree in Taxation or Tax Compliance) required.
- 3+ years of experience in tax compliance, including Sales & Use Tax, Franchise Tax, and other state and local tax filings.
- Working knowledge of multi-state tax requirements, registrations, filings, payments, and audit support.
- Experience coordinating with external CPA firms, tax advisors, and government agencies.
- Familiarity with Secretary of State filings, entity registrations, and annual compliance requirements.
- Experience maintaining tax records, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Ability to monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and support compliance efforts.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and deadline management.
