Our client is a leading, diversified power company with a growing portfolio of assets across the U.S. They are focused on delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions to utilities, municipalities, co-ops, industrial customers, and emerging energy users such as data centers and hyperscalers.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially minded Director of Business Development to join the team. This individual will lead early-stage evaluation of new power development opportunities and structure commercial transactions that support the company’s growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead early-stage evaluation of new power development opportunities.

  • Originate and structure commercial transactions including PPAs, tolling agreements, and other associated agreements (joint development, joint ventures, and key deal documents).

  • Build and maintain relationships with counterparties including utilities, municipalities, co-ops, industrials, data center developers, and hyperscalers.

  • Collaborate with project development to develop business cases for projects; coordinate with legal, risk, commercial, construction, operations, finance, and other internal groups to advance transactions.

  • Partner with internal teams (development, engineering, legal, finance, risk, regulatory) to move projects to execution.

  • Monitor market trends, policy developments, and competitive dynamics to inform commercial strategy.

  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in power sector business development, asset management, commercial operations, or origination.

  • Demonstrated track record in structuring and closing power transactions.

  • Strong understanding of power market dynamics and regulatory frameworks.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree .

  • Experience with gas-fueled, renewable energy, and battery storage development strongly .

  • Familiarity with interconnection processes and permitting pathways .

  • Exposure to competitive power markets or natural gas markets is a plus.
