Lead Engineer

Our client, a leading provider of critical environment and data centre services, is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to join their team at a high-profile site in Longcross. This is a key leadership role, responsible for supervising a technical shift team, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining resilient building services in a mission-critical environment.

 

The Role

The Lead Engineer will act as the senior technical representative on shift, overseeing planned and reactive maintenance, coordinating workloads, and ensuring strict adherence to compliance and safety procedures. The successful candidate will take ownership of shift operations, manage priorities against service level agreements (SLAs), and provide technical leadership during incidents or change management activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the technical M&E shift team, managing holiday and sickness cover, as well as supporting HR processes and appraisals.
  • Plan and prioritise shift workloads to ensure timely completion of PPMs, corrective maintenance, and reactive tasks.
  • Act as Authorised Person, managing permits to work and overseeing specialist contractors.
  • Carry out electrical switching operations within agreed authorisations and change control processes.
  • Monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring safe systems of work.
  • Liaise with other service providers to deliver a fully integrated facilities solution.
  • Maintain accurate shift handover documentation and provide weekly performance updates to management.

 

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • City & Guilds Electrical Competency (Parts 1 & 2) or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of building services and experience in critical environments.
  • Proven supervisory and customer relationship skills.
  • Working knowledge of permit-to-work systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and processes.
  • Experience with CMMS and BMS systems.

 

Desirable:

  • Time-served electrical apprenticeship.
  • Experience working within data centres.
  • HV switching qualification/experience.
  • 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
  • Knowledge of ACoPs L8 and Microsoft Office applications.
