As part of their continued growth in Japan, they are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee new build and retrofit data centre projects. About the Role
The Senior Project Manager will lead the end-to-end management of major data centre projects across Japan, ensuring adherence to scope, quality, cost, and schedule. Working closely with internal teams, contractors, and clients, you’ll ensure all projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
This position requires a balance of strategic project leadership, commercial oversight, and deep technical understanding of data centre environments. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to clients while managing multiple stakeholders across engineering, procurement, and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning and execution of new build and retrofit data centre projects across Japan.
- Ensure compliance with local standards and regulations, aligning with global engineering and operational standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, designers, and contractors to define project scope, deliverables, and commercial frameworks.
- Manage tender processes, including bid analysis, evaluation, and recommendation for award.
- Identify and mitigate statutory, commercial, and delivery risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee all aspects of project performance, including budget, schedule, and quality management.
- Lead regular project reviews and progress meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Ensure adherence to QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental) standards and best practices.
- Manage project close-out, including handover documentation, final inspections, and lessons learned reporting.
- Provide ongoing technical support, site inspections, and quality assurance throughout project execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing large-scale projects within data centre, construction, engineering, or critical environments.
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
- Strong understanding of Japanese construction standards, suppliers, and regulatory environments.
- Formal project management certification preferred (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
- Japanese Certified Construction Management Engineer License (Electrical or Mechanical) highly advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English (verbal and written).
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in contract negotiation and risk management.
