Shift Engineer

 

A leading facilities and real estate services provider is seeking a Shift Engineer to join it’s data centre engineering operations team. This role is integral to the delivery of high-quality technical and maintenance services within a critical building services environment. The position involves both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring operational reliability and client satisfaction.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Shift Leader, the Shift Engineer will play a key part in maintaining building systems, supporting compliance, and ensuring service excellence. The role demands technical expertise, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem solving. The successful candidate will also provide shift cover where required and contribute to a collaborative, client-focused team culture.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and maintain planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks and reactive works.
  • Support the shift team in the day-to-day provision of engineering services.
  • Operate and monitor Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Maintain accurate records of PPM activities and statutory inspections.
  • Oversee subcontractor activities, including reviewing permits, work quality, and compliance.
  • Take a proactive approach in resolving operational issues and escalating incidents as required.
  • Build strong working relationships with tenants, clients, and colleagues across departments.

 

Candidate Profile

  • Time-served engineer with formal qualifications in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Multi-skilled with proven knowledge of HVAC, building services, and critical systems (water, gas, heating, ventilation, waste).
  • Demonstrable experience in building services engineering, ideally within a prestigious or critical environment.
  • City & Guilds or equivalent qualifications in relevant disciplines.

 

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills with the ability to adapt to changing demands.
  • Experience in safe systems of work, including issuing permits and reviewing documentation.
  • Skilled in sourcing quotations, managing subcontractors, and overseeing quality control.
  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to delivering best-in-class service.
