Data Centre Shift Manager – Slough
Our client, a global provider of data centre and critical environment services, is seeking an experienced Data Centre Shift Manager to lead and supervise operations at a large-scale mission-critical facility in Slough. This role will provide leadership to the shift teams, ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with compliance and client expectations.
The Role
The Data Centre Shift Manager will act as the focal point for shift operations, managing maintenance, incident response, and compliance across all building systems. The successful candidate will serve as an Authorised Person, ensuring strict adherence to safety systems and documentation. With responsibility for the technical leadership and development of the shift teams, this role requires strong decision-making skills, operational expertise, and the ability to manage real-time incidents in a critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the daily activities of the shift team.
- Ensure routine and reactive maintenance is completed to SLA standards.
- Respond to BMS alarms and manage emergency repairs.
- Operate within the Permit to Work system, ensuring compliance with SSOW.
- Draft and oversee switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs.
- Maintain L8 compliance for evaporative cooling and domestic water systems.
- Review subcontractor RAMS and supervise third-party works on-site.
- Maintain comprehensive maintenance records (CAFM/REALM).
- Provide mentoring, training, and development for shift engineers.
- Conduct periodic reviews and ensure team training compliance.
- Lead incident management and escalation processes.
Candidate Profile
- HV Authorisation (essential).
- Current Wiring Regulations certification.
- Level 3 NVQ in a relevant discipline.
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
- Proven experience managing incidents in a business-critical environment.
- Demonstrable leadership experience within data centres or critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge of H&S compliance and maintenance obligations.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional and client-facing, with high integrity and accountability.
- Flexible with working hours; ability to work shifts.
Desirable:
- PASMA / IPAF certifications; knowledge of interlinked systems (Fire, PMS, BMS).
