Data Centre Technical Manager – Slough
Our client, a leading provider of data centre and critical environment services, is seeking a highly skilled Data Centre Technical Manager to join their team in Slough. This senior technical role will play a pivotal part in overseeing engineering operations, ensuring risk management, compliance, and exceptional service delivery across a large-scale critical facility.
The Role
The Data Centre Technical Manager will act as a key technical authority on-site, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term engineering strategy. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to the engineering team, manage risk-focused maintenance, oversee compliance documentation, and play a central role in training and developing staff. Acting as part of the escalation chain, the Technical Manager will provide expertise during incidents, audits, and client meetings, ensuring the site consistently achieves 100% uptime and operates to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, advice, and support to engineering teams.
- Oversee compliance documentation, risk assessments, SOPs, and switching schedules.
- Act as part of the escalation chain for technical incidents, offering expert guidance.
- Manage statutory compliance maintenance and audits, ensuring accurate reporting.
- Lead on-site training programmes, mentoring engineers, and authorising technical sign-offs.
- Drive cultural change, promoting safe working practices and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to technical audits and client reporting.
- Manage cost-related aspects of maintenance delivery.
- Provide technical support for environmental, utilities, and monitoring programmes.
- Support the Senior Technical Manager in developing site processes and training plans.
- Progress towards Senior Authorised Person status (HV/LV and confined spaces).
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and risk management systems.
Candidate Profile
- Recognised electrical qualifications (apprenticeship, HND, C&G).
- 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations (essential).
- Extensive experience in data centres or critical environments.
- HVAP status with experience suitable for SAP appointment (essential).
- Strong knowledge of UPS, standby power, critical cooling, and BMS systems.
- IOSH or equivalent health & safety training.
- Proven experience in managing engineering teams and training others.
- Excellent communication skills with confidence in high-pressure situations.
- Strong decision-making ability, proactive and self-motivated.
- Knowledge of L8 water hygiene, HVAC, and system integration (desirable).
- Proficiency with MS Office and CAFM platforms.
